Post subject:  Shift cable adjustment

Hi all,
Finally got around to putting the push button shift back in the '64 Signet and need a little help with the adjustment. I've got the car up on jack stands and in park all seems good however when I have the park lever off and the car in neutral the rear tires roll forward. Do I need to spin the adjustment wheel on the cable at the tranny in to pull the cable out more or do I spin it out to push the cable in more? Followed the instructions in the FSM by lining up the first hole and then turning to the fifth hole, seemed simple enough but I guess somewhere along the way I jacked something up. Any advice?

Thanks, Jeff

By the way, I've got a floor shift unit in excellent shape complete with cables and wiring I'll be looking to sell. Not sure what year it came from but I can get some pictures.

Can you stop them by hand easy? You may be fine. You still move the fluid in the trans even with the car in neutral. In park the sprag is engaged so it wont move.

No I can't. Looks to me, judging by the rpm the tire is rotating minus the weight of the car, I may be running close to 5 mph.

OK
Back to the R&R phase. I think you may have some more adjusting to do.

Your cables came from a b body correct? I wonder if the crimped ends are different length than a valiant's-- What I mean -- they might be just a little longer /shorter causing your adjustment to be off--.
I know when looking at a 65 cable vs 64-62 they look the same until you get up close & inspect them. (the ends are slightly different)
Just fyi--
