Well, what a difference 4000' of altitude make. Was at 41 this morning and conditions were very favorable. Didn't have my weather station but the air had to be 1000' or better. (Air at Kearney was 5000'+) Didn't touch the car since it went on the trailer in Nebraska other than adding gas. Off the trailer it went 15:11 and I went right back up and went 15:12. Not being the brightest bulb in the lamp I took this moment to decide to throw some jet in it. Pulled the plugs and they were showing way lean. Pulled the front bowl off and found a pair of 52H jets in place. Took them out and installed some 58's. Found 56's in back and put in some 60's. Went up and went 15:05 and came around and ran a 15:07. Shut it off and waited for the call to the first round. I dialed an :05 and was lined up with a mid 10 second Nova. Went in as shallow as I could, but when I brought it up against the brakes, it pushed forward and that was that. I ran it on out and went a 14:91. Funny thing is (for me anyway) from the first pass to the last I picked up 2 tenths, but did not pick up much MPH. MPH varied .3 all day between 88.4 and 88.7. Man, I sure miss my transbrake and nitrous. Now that the laying down problem seems cured I may throw a plate back on it. |

Thanks for the news, Dennis. So you were running about 15.60 at Kearney? I was about 0.8 sec off my fastest with the Dart (17.2 vs. 16.4). Lou |

Lou, it was all over the place at Kearney, but that was the first time out in almost a year with the car and a different setup than I have been running before. It was picking up every run after I got new gas and made some minor adjustments. Went from a 16:50 to a 15:63 on the brakes against Seymour. I think I went a little too big on jets. It seems to run better dead cold than after it warms up. Going up 6&4 was a major jump, but I was afraid it was going to eat a piston if I left it alone. I've got Bill's Swinger home now to finish putting his old motor back in. Should finish that up this week and then the Piggie will come back. Hopefully I can get out in another couple weeks and try again. Joliet has a couple make-up races end of September I want to play in too. It's felt really good to be back in the car, kinda like the old fire is returning. It really helps having a place to keep the car and trailer at home too. Patrick has been in night school working on his Masters in Engineering. He should be done soon and then we can get serious on the Daytona again. |

Zilla, what engine is in the car now? Is this the same long rod engine you were running before, but off the spray ? |

Yes. It has been a lot faster than it is going now off spray, but one thing holding it back is the brakes and converter. The converter is a little too tight for motor only, and the brakes just don't seem to want to hold it on the line. I will at least wire up the 2 step, that helps a lot. |

Give it some track time and 'adjusting'... it will settle-down. Good to see you back out there with the car! DD |

Thanks Doug. I think I will have time to get it out again in 3 weeks or so. |
