What causes a speedometer to make a buzzing noise as you drive? THe buzzing increases with speed, so I assume it is tied to the rotation of the speedometer cable and the gears inside the speedometer. Can I take it apart and lube something or tighten something up to make it go away?

This is on a 83 Dodge van.

Try lubricating the cable. Also inspect the cable housing for kinks and dents where the inner cable might be binding.

Thanks! I will get a tube of graphite and lube the cable.

Vaseline will work too.

What you have is the infamous "Chrysler buzz". :D

Thanks big D. I'll give the Vaseline a try too.
