| Post subject: | Valve Lash Question |
Hello all, I have a 1968 slant from a Dart. About 2 months ago I adjusted the lash and noticed considerable improvement in vacuum and smoothness. Today I noticed that the engine was running rough so I pull the cover and notice that most of the exhaust valve are tight. I regap the lash and all is good again. As I understand, this year of engine is meant to run on leaded gas, could my valve seats be wearing causing the clearance between the valve and rocker to decrease? Thanks. |

Are you adjusting the lash with the engine running? Adjusting it while the engine is off will cause the valves to end up too tight. Gap them while the motor is running and you should be fine. |

cackle, That is the correct, lash them while the engine is running. You can get better results that way. You could be getting a little recession and wear. What type of oil are you using? |

Im using Rotella 10-30 Diesel oil. I guess Im pulling the head. Anyone know if hardened seats from a v8 work on the slant? |

Or you could just run lead substitute in the fuel. The auto parts store has it. I keep a few bottles in the trunk and pour one into the tank before dispensing fuel. Ken |
