Hello thanks for reading. I have a 1964 dart/ slant six engine. The car has been sitting for about 9 months total, with me just starting it every few weeks and driving around for a few minutes. Today I replaced the fuel pump because gas was ending up in my oil and drowning my engine- there were over 8 quarts of gas in it apparently! I also replaced the spark plugs. The problem is, now the engine will only start if you hit the gas when you first turn the key, then instantly dies when it is in idle. It runs fine if you hold the gas down, but the instant your foot is off the pedal it dies. What could this be? I drove it a mile or so a few weeks ago no problem. |

I would check the choke, if that is working it could be a float problem.... give us details on your engine/carb, everything you know. EDIT: On second thought it also sounds like it could be a vacuum leak, though I don't know why you would have one after changing a fuel pump... |
