The shaft for a power steering car is shorter than for a manual steering car. An adapter is readily available to make it work. I don't know whether it is possible or feasible to swap the shaft from one to the other. |

A tape measure will tell the tale. The difference is several inches. |

I know that Flaming River has them and I expect that Firm Feel and Steer and Geer will have them as well. I don't know the cost. |

The adapter is 125.00 at FirmFeel. As I said before, it might be possible to swap the steering shaft from the column shift column to the floor shift column. Someone with the appropriate year FSM might be able to tell you more. Another possibility it to swap the collar at the top of the column. |

I'm going to try the swap--- I have a floor shift car now with p/s. I purchased a manual steering column with the gear selector-- I will then swap the floor shift parts on to the manual shaft & hopefully I'll have a floor shifted manual steering car. This is on a 69 dart. Lawrence |

Why not just use the outer housing from one to the other |

I'm not to the point of swapping -- just have the parts to do it-- My friend said it takes less than 30 minutes to swap the parts---- a manual column is cheap if it is the gear selector type. Lawrence |

The later ones with the column mounted ignition and collapsible column are more complicated but I can't believe it would be all that difficult. |

They did it because the Federal Government mandated collapsible columns and locking steering wheels. |
