I've got a 73 /6 duster with HEI and today it decided to die on me. I was turning left across traffic and got on it hard, the rear broke loose, engine sputtered and died. It will crank and "try" to fire but wont start. I did get it running ( no power ) by advancing the timing about 10*. It did start but had no power and stalled within seconds and the exhaust sounded strange. So, did it jump time or lose a couple of push rods or shear the dizzy gear? the engine was spinning at about 4k when it just fell on its face. I'll be out to check on it in a couple of hours but need to know where to start. My plan is like this: 1. turn engine over to TDC and verify timing mark and dizzy position. 2. pull valve cover and check push rods. Voltage to hei is correct and on/off when it's supposed to be. At this point not really thinking its electrical. Thanks Matt |

(1) check the plastic distributor gear (2) check the coil |

Reed wins a beer! 2 mostly missing teeth on the dizzy gear... one broke horizontally and one chipped vertically. reset the timing one tooth and it starts right up, but I'll be waiting until I get a new one to drive it. Thanks |

Nope, Reed has had the same thing happen to him on two different slant powered cars before. Experience is the best teacher. |
