| Post subject: | 8 1/4 axle bearings |
hello sl6 sages- my 77 aspen wagon with 360 k onthe clock is rumbling like hell inthe rear. the noise seems to be shot outer wheel bearings. i opened the housing removed the c clip and pushed the axle out. the bearing appears pressed in the axle shaft, not like the pressed on bearing which came out withthe axle in my 69 coronet 8 3/4 axle.do i need a special puller or some kind of a lever to pop out the bearing and a fat dowel to tap the new one in? would a sage with experience on this axle please advise- looking for a shortcut. a local genius tells me to just use the knurled end of the axle , lever it under the back of the bearing and pop it out and then use an old baseball bat end to push inthe new bearing. both ways strike me as too risky. what do you advise. thanks tons. callpaladin@aol.com callpaladin@aol.com |

It worked OK for me. klesteb@aol.com |
