Hello
This is my first attempt to log on and post my information . I own a 1962 Valiant Signet V200 with a 1 barrel Carter B&B carburetor . I've had the car on the road as my daily driver ( spring to fall ) for 2 years . I have a couple of nagging problems . When the car warms up to running temperature it seems to surge up and down slightly at cruising speed . The other problem is that occasionally it appears to bock form a rolling start , as if I have no gas , if I feather the pedal it corrects itself . To date to try and correct these situations I have had the carb rebuilt . Initially it ran better but has reverted to the same running condition . I bought a good used distributor form National Mopar and installed a new cap, rotor, wires, and a motorcraft electronic igniton conversion kit . No change . I've replaced and rerouted the pump to carb fuel line over the top of the valve cover. No change . I have a new fuel pump yet to be installed . I am trying to correct these problems through the process of elimination . So far unsuccessfully . I have an instinct that it still lies in the carb ? Any help would be appreciated . I got took the car off the road for the winter up here in Oakville Onatrio Canada .
Thanks in advance
Len Gilbert

I finally got back out to the garage this mourning and took a look down the carb as I turn the throttle lever . I get a spurt of gas each time , both before and after I start the car . One other thing that a should have mentioned is that when the car is started form cold the choke closes but it takes about a minute before it ramps up to the fast idle speed .

Welcome on the board. You'll want to get the three books described in this thread as quickly as you can, to get fully up to speed on how your car is built and how to repair it and keep it running right. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. The engine requires periodic valve adjustment. It also sounds as if your carburetor does need attention. Carburetor operation and repair manuals (and some training movies) are posted here for free download. If for whatever reason you decide to replace the carb — if yours is beyond help/hope — do not get a "remanufactured" or "rebuilt" carburetor from a parts store online or in person; they're junk.
