Does anyone have any experience with power carbon cleaning (flushing) agents? Do they work well?

I always just crank up the idle to 1500-2000 RPM and very slowly pour some water down the carb. If the engine shuts off, you know you've put it in too fast :)

Guy I know told me in the 50s and 60s they would take a coke can fill it half with Mineral Spirits and half with water, bring the engine under a load of 2000rpm and pour it slowly in bursts letting the engine clear out every time. I have done it numerous times and it works great.
