YEA i just adjust the valves on my 68 225 to .010I .020E but even before that i cant seem to go over 60mph on the frw automatic 3 speed not counting R feels like it shifts gears to soon i want to at least take advantage of the extra 5mph that i cant get to (wink wink) any suggestions |

GEARING? What size rear tire are you running? In my truck with 31 inch tires and a 3.55 differential I'm running 65 miles an hour even though my speedo is calibrated to a smaller tire and reads something like 55 miles per hour. If you have a 26 inch tire then you'd be going 55 at about 2500rpm. Assuming you had the 3.55. Yeah, my truck shift too early too. An adjustment to the linkage from the throttle to the tranny often called the kickdown. I did this on my 72 Demon but the truck has a different looking linkage. ________ vapor genie vaporizer |

Check your kickdown linkage adjustment, your throttle linkage adjustment, your base timing, and you motor's general state of tune. Topping out at 60 might also be the sign of a seriously worn out motor. But without more information about the condition and configuration of the rest of your engine it is hard to say. |

Well, you could start by going to the articles section on the front of this website and following the instructions posted in those numerous article about how to adjust everything I mentioned. Or, just click HERE if you can't find the articles. Do you have a shop manual for your car? All of the adjustments I mention are part of a basic tune-up. You can also try doing a search of this website to find posts where these topics have been discussed numerous times before. Again, without more information about your car, what has been done to the motor, what carb you are running, whether or not everything is stock, the compression ratio of the cylinders, etc... it is very hard to diagnose your problem. |

When i first got my 64' Valiant at the age of 14, I took it out on the highway and got it up to 105mph :p Pretty good for a 1980 Slant with minor tweaks done by previous owner :p Right now its topping out around 90 so I'm thinking its time for more fuel and an HEI ignition.. You should check your compression and size up the life of your motor.. |
