| Post subject: | 904 Band adjustment help please |
hi, i thought I might adjust my low/reverse & front bands on my '72 /6 Duster with 904 auto while I was doing a service on it. manual says to loosen lock nut ,tighten adjusting screw to 72 in lbs, then back off 4 turns. first thing I noticed was that the current setup had ALOT of slop. so I am thinking ( WOW, this thing is really out of adjustment)so when I go and start tightening to get my 72 in lbs, the adjusting screw just pushes the servo piston up easally until I run out of screw, never getting close to the 72 in lbs.what gives? take in to account this is a running, driveing vehicle, that seemed to be fine.anybody know what is wrong?Brian. |

Later 904 trans had a different adjustment procedure What is the part # on your trans? should start with a P or PK and have 7 numbers. It might have a different year of trans. |

that is exactly what it was. I found the same topic doing a search on another board.my trans. is a '79 model transplanted at the same time as my engine. adjustment on this one is 42 in lbs with 7 turns out. was told this is a lock up convertor year. is that correct? if so, what does that mean to me? Thanks, Brian. |

unfortunately the 2 pre-fix letters are very lightly stamped, but here is what I got. 301 3 6478 9716 maybe what should be letters, and looks like 30 is a BO came out of a '79 Aspen. thanks for any help. |

The 6478 jibes with a mid '79 date code.On the "301",could the 1 be a 4?The closest part# I have is 4130413 which is a '79 lock-up.I understand 30 years of corosion makes it hard to ID these things. |
