I just received a suggestion that the 1-2 shifting mechanism is so close to the reverse shifting mechanism that they can rub together if you don't push over on the side cover while tightening the bolts. Isn't that cutting it pretty close on the drawing board?

Never heard of that. Please explain further. When you say 'push over on the side cover', exactly what are you talking about? The side cover is not adjustable and I don't remember an adjustment for the shift yokes or collars.

Yep, the shouldered bolts positively locate the A833 side cover.

I'm thinking of a tranny on a bench or turnstile, open side up. You're putting the side cover on and you push on it, which would, of course, be away from you. Put in other words, if the tranny were in position on the car you would push up while tightening the bolts, according to this guy.

My memory being about an inch long I wouldn't have declared that, but that's what I was thinking. Altho I wouldn't swear you couldn't pick up a few thousandths.
