Post subject:  Firing Order 225 slant 6?
I have a 74 Dodge Dart - all original with over 200,000 mniles on her - best car I have ever owned. However, after replacing the distributor cap, rotor and plug wires, I realized that I had apparently put them together incorrectly. My Dart manual says the order is 153624, but that is not the order that was on the distributor and if I use the order according to the manual it will not turn over. Is there a second possible firing order? Or is there a way to confirm the firing order? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have the correct firing order, however, your #1 plug must go in EXACTLY where it was before on the old cap. I've been in the position where I changed the cap and could not remember where the first position was, so I moved each wire over one slot until I got it to kick over. You'll get it running again once your wires are positioned correctly!

Pull the coil wire and ground it out of the way. That will keep the engine from starting unexpectedly, or shocking yourself. Pull #1 plug. Stick your finger in/over the hole, and crank over the engine with the starter. You'll feel the compressed air building in the cylinder when it is on the compression stroke, just prior to firing. When the timing mark approaches aprox 10 degrees BTDC (and you know your on the compression stroke by the pressure on your finger) stop cranking. You can roll it over a little more by hand or with a breaker bar until it's exactly 10 deg BTDC. Pop the distributor cap off if it wasn't already off, & note where the rotor is pointing. The terminal on the distributor cap that the rotor would be pointing to, were the cap on the distributor and 'keyed properly' is your #1 cylinder terminal. Now just atttach the wires to the cap in order and in the correct rotor rotation corresponding to the firing order. Reattach the coil wire. If all is right with the sl/6 gods, she should fire and run well enough to fine tune the spark advance with a timing light.

i heard somewhere i dont remember. a trick to remember the firing order of a 225 (153924) 15 is too young, 36 is too old 24, is just right 8)

#1 on the cap is closest to the vac advance pod
