Post subject:  Intake/Exhaust gasket sealing?

I have one of the extra-thick "header" gaskets, think it's a Mr. Gasket #321. This is the 12-port gasket that goes between the manifolds and the head. I think I remember reading that this gasket does a better job of sealing than the thin regular gaskets -- true? I also think I remember reading that it's a good idea to soak this kind of gasket (semi-hard white composition) in water for a few hours, then install while it's a little soft, which will improve the seal -- true?

I have used these Mr. Gasket thick white "paper" gaskets mostly for header applications. I have never soaked one in water so I'm not sure what that does to them. May-be cut a sliver of the material off the gasket and do a soak test to see how it reacts.

I am using a ROL gasket on the intake/exhaust. It is a composite item, metal core with a fibrous outer layer on both sides. I did not measure the thickness of it but it was close to 0.060". Anyway, it has worked very well for 13K miles. No problems getting the headers or intake sealed and no loosing over time.

Where'd you find ROL-brand gaskets?

I purchased and engine overhaul kit from PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) and the gasket set was ROL.

What is a ROL gasket?????

ROL is a brand name like Fel Pro. That is the brand of the engine gasket set that came with the overhaul kit.
