Well I decided that the hour long drive to my dad's place was definitely keeping me from working on the car as much as I need to; so we hauled it here to my somewhat heated garage.

Check this wheelstand! Getting ready to put the trans back in.

FAIR WARNING:
You are about to see some QUESTIONABLE engineering by the previous owner. I'm going to address this stuff once the car is driving again....

Wow, that looks sweet! Hope it all comes together well and hope we see you at one or more Slant Six races next year!! \

You are also more than welcome to come to the "Slanted Family" banquet in late Jan or early Feb, usually in Gatlinburg.

Doesn't look too shabby! That Cuda console is neat, and it looks like you might have a factory "truck" slant with the extra goodies therein and a rare MP two barrel intake.

I am trying to figure out what that wire cable is running from the passenger side of the carb to the front of the car....

Mopar M1 manifold for slantsix, nice LONG headers

Ok, first things first, I have a sneaking suspicion that the engine may be a 170. The p.o. said it is the original from the car, simply painted truck yellow to match the car. :roll: The header hangs waaaay down and has already seen its share of scrapes. And check out the engine to head crossover hose, short isn't it? Regardless its supposed to have had a healthy rebuild including some sort of m.p. cam in the early nineties. This was a father-son project going on 20 years that was very stalled out when I bought it about a year ago. I'll get the numbers off the block behind the alternator and post them sometime to make sure. Either way;

Here are the plans for my build of the car:
Image
I'm a bodyman/painter by trade, so of course the car will be repainted. I'm gonna do an O.E. white, including the engine bay so as not to look like a cheby.
I'll keep the stripe.
Changing to an earlier bumper (70-71) which along with the front will be shaved and smoother before I spray a coat of Alsachrome.
Hood scoop will be cut down.
BBP disk brake swap and 15" rallyes with correct color and centercaps.
I may rework the grille a little, not sure but at the very least will be freshened up with some paint.
One peice side windows off a later car.
Smaller diameter Steering wheel, maybe a repro Tuff wheel, and tilt column without indicator would be nice.
I'll coat the header if I don't get some clifford shorties( I know... ) or build my own.
The engine will be sprayed Hemi orange, and the valvecover( which I got in trade off my dad's 75 for the chrome one I had) will be wrinkle black.
I'll probably leave the intake alone except for a cleanup.
I'm thinking of a super six air cleaner with orange stickers and a homemade hood gasket like the old 6bbl fresh air hood cars as the p.o felt it necessary to cut a hole in the hood. You know, for performance.
New brackets for the throttle return spring etc.
New electric choke and throw that cable in the trash.
Hei mod, lots of wiring to fix....
Of course I would like to do the volvo O.D. I've been discussing over in the trans forum.
Redo those 72 cuda seats I bought to match the center console, which needs a door and some other work to be right.
Get a new dashpad or wrap the whole dash.
Car needs a new trunk pan but otherwise is not very rusty and has very little bondo so I wont have to Image.
Wow that's a lot of stuff.. there's probably more i'm not thinking of right now.

Best part is I have to spend this weekend recovering from a neck sprain I got at work so I can't put the trans in or really do anything.
Also as of yesterday my daily driver dakota decided it wanted a new 5speed ImageImage So now I have to fix that too.

Oh well one day at a time I suppose.
I know all you slanters will be behind me all the way!

The bypass hose for a 170 is shorter than that one.

Sounds like a good beginning list, but there is always more you aren't thinking of. Post the numbers stamped on the pad on the engine block below the alternator. We can tell you if it is a 170 or a 225 using those numbers.

That makes me feel a bit better, as does this:

The numbers I got were 7225r 7 13 1x1
on that last bit the first 1 and the x were on top of each other.

And I also saw that my orange box was made in the USA. Go figure.

Post subject:  Trans is in!

My Dad came up Saturday (19th) and helped me get this thing put together. Trans is in, driveshaft is in, trans cooler lines are in.

Here are some pics of the trans cooler lines. I know they won't suit everyone, but I think they worked out good.

Also I put in an edelbroc chrome valvecover breather I had laying around.
Looks better than the *cough*sock*cough* that was in there when I bought the car. Also removed that choke cable and slightly reworked the kickdown bracket.

Hopefully one day this week I'll get home early enough to put the front end on the ground, jack up the rear and get fluid through the tranny.
Then it'll be time to see what she's made of!

I hope those hoses over the tubing without clamps aren't used to connect the tubing together, but just for rubbing/clamping in place...............

10-4 good buddy, just to limit rubbing.
