Has anyone on this form had their cylinder head Extrude Honed? (http://www.gethoned.com/)
Current price is $1140 for this job, and I would like to know if anyone has done this and what performance gains they ended up with.

The cost has kept me away from it, but it seems like a sound practice. I would send them a ported head, as it doesn't remove a lot of material, but smooths out what is already there.

If you have the cash, go for it, and post pictures.

Actually, how hard would it be to do this in the back yard? I wonder if Dart270 could get us a deal on industrial Silly putty.... You would need to get some sort of pump and delivery system to make this work.

For $1100, I think you could do a lot.

I would not do it, especially for that price.

The trick to porting a Slant head is knowing what to take out and what to leave. Extrude honing does not differentiate, it just removes.

You can have a good hand porting job done for aboot 2/3 that price for sure.

I had my Dutra Hyperpack Intake done - It smoothes out niceley - On a head espically an Iron one I dont think it's worth it - The ExtrudeHone World headquaters is a mile from my house.

It would be worth it to use this service for factory correct style manifolds and parts that would otherwise have to be cut apart and welded back togther to be ported / smoothed.

If you are going to spend that kind of ca$h on a head send it to Mike Jeffery - More results for less dough!

They might be willing to share info on who has had this done before with a slant six engine, if anyone. Hopefully you would be able to contact them and ask directly. Just a thought.

Post subject:  Extrude Hone or Porting

The $1140 for the extrude hone is a bit high alright. I had planned on porting the head first, as I have all the equipment to do such The question I have on porting is, does anyone have information on what and where to remove the correct amount of material to make a proper flowing head without killing off the flow at different RPM.
I have built dozens of V8s, but this is my first run at a six, with the intention of building it to be turbocharged with MPFI. It's a 1969 225.
