I finally just got my 1-piece poly spool mounts (thread 1, thread 2) installed on my stock '73 Dart and it's way too noisy. Lots of engine rumble that wasn't there before on light, medium, or hard acceleration. I need to go back in and check if the engine's hitting anything, but if not, these have gotta come back out.  Thoughts?

Drill some holes in them along the axis of the mount. Adjust to suit. They will be softer, and reduce the energy transmitted. CJ |

Was thinkin' of just exactly that. Guess I could duplicate the gaps of the factory rubber spool and still wind up with a firmer mount than before. But I still gotta take 'em out to do it! |

Can't speak to engine mounts but I deep sixed a roll bar's poly mounts because they would not shut up. Squeaks, creaks, etc...horrible. I threaded in a grease zerk to no avail...it worked for a while, and then it began squeaking again (even with the special poly lube). I went back to rubber. It seems to me that the engine mount might be doing the same thing--there is a reason that regular old rubber was/is used in these applications. The urethanes are strong and long lasting, they just have tensile properties that make them less forgiving than rubber. Try the poly lube and see if that tames the sounds... |

These poly mounts aren't moving/squeaking, they're just transmitting a lot more noise into the passenger compartment. Either that or, as I say, something's hitting. It was dark by the time I had test driven the car, so I'll have to wait til it's light out again. |

How long did you let the engine run? If it wasn't long, they may have been stiff because it's winter and they were cold and stiff.............. |

I would have thought everyone would expect this. Solid poly is waaayyyy more stiff than rubber with holes in it... I would count these as performance items only needed for higher power levels. My 2 cents... Lou |

.... or for those who don't mind the noise level increase on the streeet. My 2 cents... Lou Pretty much what I'm figuring as well on the early ones. Hope yours'll be mostly something you can remedy easily. |

I bought a pair of the poly spool bushings, but they are going into my Valiant which is a play car. If they are just too noisy and harsh for the long drives to slant six bracket races I'll have to swap in the rubber mounts. |

If you can hear it with yer toque on its too loud. Id give them a chance....I have poly mounts on several company vehicles here...they start a lil grumbly and get better in a short time. They are definitely worse in the cold. I agree with Lou they are overt kill on a stocker. I use them in high torque vehicles that tow....and rip stock mounts. Dont use a poly trans mount....you will reallly regret that. I would certainly make sure no metal is touching metal...... The sun sets behind the mountain at 11:45am......so I have some driver grumble sympathy....... |

I didn't have any objection to the poly trans mount I put in my '71. What've you found objectionable about them? |

I bought new rubber spool engine mounts and also replaced the rear tranny mount. Even new rubber mounts are noisy until they break in. Mine took about 9 months..... I can imagine the new poly ones would be much worse! |
