I went to install the cam in my son's engine today. When we worked the cam into place it got tight just as it was beginning to go into the last bearing. I pulled the cam out and tried to start it in backwards and it is definitely the front bearing that it is tight on. It will only slide in about an 1/8" and then it gets tight. I Tried another new cam that I have and it is the same way. This is a new rebuild, new cam bearings, ...etc. Engine builder is top notch from everything I've heard about him. But something is definitely not right. Your ideas and info is greatly appreciated.I'm sure someone on the board knows what's up. I'd like to know before I take it back to the machine shop next week. Thanks Rick rcovalt@innernet.net |

Look on the bright side, if you have to scrape any cam bearings the front one is definitely the easiest one to do. Depending, of course, on what you turn up, I am not sure your machinist is to blame, nor could he be expected to find this. fglmopar@aol.com |

I *always* give the machine shop a cam to fit to the cam bearings, that way there are no "dumb looks" or "was I suppost to make sure the cam spins freely in those new bearings I installed" kind of responces. It is pretty common to have to do some level of "tweeking" to get new cam bearings to work well. Take the engine back to the shop and have them fix the cam bearing fit. DD |
