The carb on my 68 Dart (225, A/T, 1bbl., 4dr)is shot. Its not the original carb, it is a /6 truck carb (1bbl Carter).
Does anyone know what carb (Carter or Holley) came on it originally? Also, where is the best place to get a new carb?? I've heard some of the rebuilt carbs are junk.

Your dart originally had a Holley 1920 carb on it. I have had good luck just grabbing carbs from the junkyard and doing a quality rebuild on them myself. the Holley 1920 was the standard base slant six carb from the early sixties until around 73, however, 66 and earlier carbs will have a rod style throttle linkage instead of the cable style on your dart. I would get a Holley 1920 off of and 225 I saw in the junkyard, but avoid the ones found on 170s since they have a lower flow rating. Also, when you are doing the rebuild replace the main metering jet with a #63. It will help eliminate poor idle and off idle bog.

If you end up buying a remanufactured carb I recommend NAPA. They use Tommy Tomco rebuilt carbs. If you go this route be prepared to rest all the adjustments on the carb and definitely replace the main metering jet.
