Hi Guys, I have a set of Clifford single valve springs w/damper. In the Mopar Performance book it mentions that you don't/can't use the umbrella style viton seals with dual valve springs. To me, the damper doesn't necessarily constitute "dual spring". Or does it? OK here's the question. Will the umbrella seals fit, or do I toss them and cut the guide for the teflon seal? This is going to be a street engine, so I think I'd prefer to use the umbrella seals if possible. Thanks in advance for your help. Gilly tlg225ccr@aol.com |

Single spring with damper is not dual springs, so the umbrella seals should fit with those springs. Here's something that I do whenever I finish a head, just for extra insurance. I use a vacuum checker(Sioux) to physically check the seat/valve face and stem/guide seal. It's kind of like a negative pressure leak-down test. fglmopar@aol.com |

Be sure to check your clearance between the keeper base and the top of the valve guide at full lift. With higher lift cams, there may not be enough room between the two for the thick umbrella seal. They are an outlet for Goodson, an auto tool company, and Sioux Tools. Either of which sell such a tool. But any Sioux tool outlet can hook you up. I don't have the catalog #, but it is a kit with several adapters, a case, and a cast aluminum handle/with guage and compressed air inlet. The compressed air runs across an orifice in the handle, which creates a vacuum that is connected via the adapters, which are sealed to the head's ports, or spark plug hole. If you buy an additional adapter big enough, one can even check ring seal with the head off. fglmopar@aol.com |
