I have a 75 dart sport, lightened some, about 3150 lbs. Auto 3500 stall offy intake,4 barell,390 holley, MP header .100 off the head ported. Comp cam 252, very mild, New valve springs and other things. 3.50 gears. I run in the 17.46 range with out the converter havn't run it yet with the converter. but it should go in the 16's with it. I would like to use as much of what I have as posible. What I want to know is how to build a slant to put me in the 14's. Any one have an awnser? melam@nxs.net |

I would start with trying to remove some more weight (search threads on .com for ideas), milling for more compression, and getting a bigger cam - like a 235 @0.050" or bigger. Make sure you put the stall in and see where it actually stalls before you cam it up, though. Big valves in the head will almost certainly be needed too for 14s. Taller gears will also probably be needed for 14s - like 4.10s. Light wheels are a great idea too (like Welds or Centerlines, OR some Outlaw II style - light and cheap) for less rotating mass. The '64 Dart in PHR looks like a pretty good way to do it! I have a '64 4-door like Lou's car, but it's now a 3 speed manual with 170. The PHR coverage documents what I'd like: better handling, a lighter A body can be quick and not become too radical for daily use. I'm encouraged that these forty year old cars can handle and run with the newer cars without spending a fortune. I think it could be difficult for a post '67 car to drop enough weight to match the balance of an early A body. Quote:
