: Hey I am just wonderin how easily coudl it be : to rebuild a 3 on the tree on a 78 Dodge : D-100 that I have cause I am having trouble : with the 1st-reverse selector As of a couple of years ago the parts were still available at the dealer! I just rebuilt a 69 dart and the parts were nls. The truck maybe still available if your real lucky. In my 72 d 100 I put in a new spacer and a bottom shift lever. You have to totally dismantle the column to change these parts. The bottom lever takes most of the wear with the spacer pushing down on it( the spacer wears too). These parts should fix your problem. There is also a piece below the bottom lever that holds all the pieces in place it may be worn too. The dart was worn... the truck wasn't? For the dart I had a local machine shop make a spacer out of a piece of pipe .... weld up and remachine the lever. Cost was $40. The parts if you could buy them new( the d 100) were half that. It is not hard to do If you can get the parts. Clean all the grease out of the column+ shifter parts and put fresh lithium grese in there Goes a long way towards getting it shift right! Try and find a dealer that will look up the parts for you and give it a go with new stuff. If it is nls.. do what I did and repair the bottom lever and a new spacer. You may also want to look at that piece below the bottom lever if it is worn macine it flat and elongate the holes in the column to position it up against the lever. Your goal is to get the levers to stay parallel with one another. When they spread apart that is when it binds up. It is not all that hard to get apart and is simlple to see how it works once you get into it! If you get real desperate I may part with the column out of the 72 as I plan to put a 4 spd in it......email is..sandy.colter@ns.sympatico.ca Regards Sandy in Nova Scotia 70 duster 70 chrysler 300 2dr htp 72 d-100 swb adventurer 72vh aussie dodge ute 72 vh aussie charger 73 duster 340 76 feather duster 79 l'il red express 82 ram prospector 84 regal t-type 3.8 turbo 96 grand caravan es (wife's) 98 ram SS/T 02 dakota sport sandy.colter@ns.sympatico.ca |

Supposedly the floor shifts arn't all that great either. Can't remembe why? Might have been the universal fit or quality? Sandy sandy.colter@ns.sympatico.ca |

I won't but when I can't even get any parts for the main part of the shifter setup anymore (I have checked the only 2 parts in the US are in texas and virginia and is like 35 bucks a pop and I am not restoring it so might as well do a floorshifter but right now there is a challenge for me cause the tranny crossmember has some clearance issues right at the moment and if the shifter fails on me down the road I will purchase either a Hurst shifter or look into converting it to either a 4sp truck tranny or a HD 5 speed jneal77@yahoo.com |
