My wiring schematic only shows one white wire hooking up to the oil sender on the oil pump, but on my truck there are three in patriotic colors: one white, one 12 or 14 ga red, and dark blue. The red was hooked to a bunch of other red wires (from the alternator, voltage regulator, et al) and naturally the white goes through the bulkhead connector to the gauge.

What's the blue wire for? Do I really need it? Do I need the red one either?

Bear in mind this wiring harness was pretty boogered up when I got it. The guy who hacked this up was a 33rd degree idiot.

Never mind, runs just fine without the red or blue. Idiot light still works fine with just the white. Must've been some sort of lean burn thing.

Careful what you disconnect — in some years and configurations, the choke heater connects via the oil pressure sender.

Dan, once again I believe you are correct. But I am using a manual choke, so no worries.
