I have a 1968 Dart, 225 six, automatic, column shift. Found an automatic trans in a 1975 Dart, 225 six, column shift; Is the 75 trans and torque converter compatible with my 68 engine? Thanks

Assuming both cars have not been tampered with, those parts are completely compatible. '66-up transmissions were the same, '68-up cranks (and thus torque converters) were the same.

Thanks for the reply, BTW, I bought a copy of Popular Hotrodding and saw the article on your ride that everybody was talking about on slantsix.com. Way cool, It's because of what you guys are doing with these slants that I stuck with my slant six and it looks like my dad will be buying a 69 Dart with the 225. Later, Shannon

I'm pretty sure the input shaft on the trans changed between 67 and 68. I know the 65 trans had a smaller input shaft, then the latter transmissions.

THE '67-DOWN AND '68-UP TRANS CONVERTERS CHANGED HUB DIAMETERS (????) - THERE IS A 1/8" RING TO COMPENSATE -

GO TO A MACHINIST AND FOR $50 TAA-DAA ! SO WITH THAT ASIDE THE LINKAGE IS THE SAME UNTIL END OF DART/VALIANT.

AN ASIDE: THE A904 OUTPUT SHAFT BEARING IS OBSOLETE (FAG 2A836) I.D. 1.1645" [/u] O.D. 2.44" W. .63'. W/ SNAPRING

ALTERNATIVE WORKS WELL: (6206) NO SIDE SEALS I.D. 1.181" O.D. 2.44" W. .63" SNAPRING

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-pc-6206-open ... 8122!US!-1

YOU CUT 3.5" LENGTH OF .008" FEELER GAGE AND SLIDE IT BETWEEN SHAFT & I.D.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/008-Thick-1-2- ... SwMmBVpBc2

N-O-W EMERSON BEARING HAS 4 ORIGINAL BEARINGS LEFT. I SCOURED WORLDWIDE AND FOUND SOME FROM GERMANY (FAG 2A836's)…….

BUT I LIKE MY ALTERNATIVE BETTER...….$9...….INSTEAD OF $54. SINCE I BUILD RACE A904's THIS IS A GOOD SETUP.

Yep, Lou (dart270) is famous. PHR did a nice article on his slant six more door Dart at PIR road course. Back around 2001 or 2002. I have a copy somewhere..

'68-up transmissions and '68-up cranks are directly compatible. '66-'67 transmissions can be used behind '68-up crankshafts with a spacer ring between the larger '68-up crankshaft counterbore and the smaller pre-'68 torque converter nose, but '68-up transmissions cannot be used (won't fit) behind pre-'68 crankshafts.

Cranksnapper: find your caps lock key and press it one time.

Mmmm, fond memories. At one point, that 2 pg article was scanned and posted on this site. I'll see if I can find an electronic file... I just laid eyes on the PB 904 that ran great in that car for many years. Still worked great when pulled, and was in the yellow 64 Valiant for a little while. The 1st engine is awaiting a new crank and will live again with just new bearings+crank...

Cheers,
Lou
