Post subject:  Time for a rebuild, need cam advise

Just threw a rod throught the block on my way back from Vegas.
Need to do a rebuild on the quicks.Need cam advise, here is what I have:

1967 Dart 225 904(with low first and lockup)
Daily driver
Going to do a complete rebuild .030 over
Big Valve Head with mild port work about 9.0-1 comp
Super six iron intake with holley 350 carb
Long tube headers with 2 1/2 exhaust.
8 3/4 rear with 3.23's

Want max performance with above combo, and stock stall/LU convertor.

With a stock torque converter I'd use the Erson RV-15 that Doc designed. See this thread for more info. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... son#227653

You could stand quite a bit more duration and make more power if you were willing to buy a high stall converter. Everything else in your combo supports more cam duration.

How do you like idle quality?
How high do you want to rev the engine?
What is the RPM you like to drive at on the open road?

Remember, if you're thinking of going turbo, you might want a larger LSA and a little different on the duration.

Turbo is a furture goal, but I might just buy a different cam for the later down the road.

I like a lumpy idle,as long as its not horrible at a stop light in D.

I would like it to rev to 5500-6000

3.23's with 26" tall tires should put me anywhere from 2500+ rpm I would imagine.

I am more than willing to buy a high stall convertor. Its price that is holding me back. I only have enough for the machine work and rebuild kit. Will be doing all other work myself...

Some nice Erson SL6 "street cam" options:
Erson 244 MP "clone" cam in a RDP design is called RV10M-212/.295
The next step up, also an RDP cam has been named RV15M-212/.295
Here is the cam sheet on the last one I ordered and used.
I would NOT grind 4 degrees of advance into the RDP RV15M-212/.295 as shown on the sheet.
( I had to retard the cam 4 degrees when I installed it to get the events in a good place)

I have a different idea on the cam. I really like the Erson 280/270 and you do have the engine work to support it.
Either way a New TC would help alot. Even if you used a stock cam.

I plan on buying a convertor, but it wont be for a few months down the road. Would it be ok to run something like the 280/270 with no convertor, untill I can buy one? Or will it really be a dog?

I ran the 280/270 for 3 months without a high stall, it ran fine just worse on gas milage. I was not trying to race so it wasnt a big deal.

I guess i wont really be a big help since i was running a 3000rpm converter with my 270 erson cam but i liked it, it wouold launch hard and pull over 5000rpm depending on the timing

It *might* be OK with 9:1 comp minimum and a good ign timing tuneup. Also, degree it at 100 centerline (yes, you read that right).
