Don't really know where to put this, but here it goes, I noticed when my car is at speed ( say 55mph and above) i get this droning sound, sounds like a "WUMPH WUMPH WUMPH WUMPH" from the rear of the car. I know it needs tires, could this be the issue? I was thinking driveshaft out of balance perhaps?

Fix the tire problem First. Then see(hear) if there is still a problem.

Maybe swapping all wheels front to rear, see if the sound follows? Pat

If the vehicle has a 7 1/4 rear axle, it is likely that the axle bearing(s) need replacement.

Tires were of no help, but how would I find out if I have the 71/4 axle?

You most likely have a 7 1/4. If it looks confusing under the car, just count out the bolts on the rear cover. A 7 1/4 should have 9. You'll need to identify which side the noise is coming from and pull that axle. Take it down to a machine shop to have a new bearing pressed on. Then go get yourself a seal from an auto parts store. Remove the old seal, install the new seal and then put the axle back in and connect everything back up.

Been through this for the last two years! It's the driveline... If you have a ball and trunion set up it is that for sure. If not just have it balanced($30) and change the trani mout while you're at it.
