I am building a 1964 /6 that will be using a 1970 904. I am ignorant about the difference in the 1964 crank flange configuration from the 1970, but have read that some sort of adapter is needed to mate the rear crank flange to the late transmission. I don't know what's different; the converter hub, or the flex plate.... or, something else. Can someone who's put a later T-flite on a '64 /6 904 shed some light on this for me, please? Thanks for any info!!! Bill |

I've not done the swap being a manual tranny guy, but having both types of crank pocket sizes makes things easy to see... The crank pocket changed in the 1968 model year and is bigger than the previous versions...so the 1970 A904 will need one of two things to mate it properly to your engine: 1) Change the crank in your engine to a 1968-1976 forged crank (not easy and not very economical) 2) Get a custom torque convertor, with the late converter splines and the early nose...fairly do-able for a moderate price... It's easier the other way around if you had a 1968+ engine to mate to the 1967- transmission...then you get to talk to Pat Blais for the annular ring to put in the crank pocket to hold the smaller nose... Local Tranny shop or using the search function will find the appropriate dealer for your convertor... -D.Idiot |

Yep, that's correct. If you haven't done your crank, yet, I would suggest the later (68-75) crank, If your crank is already done, you will need to order a "special" converter. That is not a big issue. I have all my converters made that way, and since it is a racing converter, there was no extra charge for the small pilot/large spline configuration. |
