Post subject:  Manifold removal question.

I have a dutchman in my exhaust pipe to manifold connection on my 77 Aspen. It has the Aussie manifold and heat box gaskets on it. Would it be best to leave the intake and exhaust together when I pull it? They were supposed to be machined when the gaskets were installed. I started soaking it tonight. My plan was to pull them and have a nut welded on the dutchman, if the vice grips don't work after soaking. I tried them earlier today but didn't get real rough with it. The next step would be that I have another exhaust manifold from my 78 builder engine. It looks pretty straight measured with a straight edge tonight while I was in my pajamas. I have a new set of Aussie gaskets. What would you do. The gaskets only have around 1000 miles on them but I'll change them out as I only want to do this once. Sorry about the long winded question but Wenesday I get home early from chemo/radiation and I want to have a plan. Thanks in advance Mike

Broken off exhaust flange stud = dutchman. I don't know if that's an oilfield term but now looking at it I'm thinking it's probably not politicaly correct.

I didn't take picture of it yet. I did get pictures of all the bracketry, linkage and cables so I can put it back just like it was. It's just a broken off exhaust flange stud with about 3/8" sicking down.

Well I ended up pulling the manifold and got broken stud out. I had the bottom middle stud back out so I will put a new stud in. I will assemble as per manifold installation article. I think I will change out the motor mount while I have it off though. Thanks for all the help.
