Post subject:  Why Slanted????

Why did Dodge produce the slant 6 instead of the like the Chevy or any of the other inline 6's. There must be a good reason why this motor is slanted.

Because unlike GM and Ford, Chrysler had good engine engineers at the time. :lol:

The slant made it possible to have lower hoodlines, shorter overall engine length, and more efficient, freer-breathing intake and exhaust manifolds.

Now I know why I like the Dodges ..... Smart guys!
Now if it were cheaper to do performance upgrades to these engines.

They weren't the only company to build slanted sixes - BMW sixes also lean about 30 degrees to the right, and there are a couple slightly slanted Mercedes designs.

Dont forget guys, the 4.125"stroke on the 225 would be impossible if the engine sat upright. I guess that falls under hood clearance statement though.

The 300SL "Gullwing" Mercedes of the mid-50's had a 3.0L inline six canted at 50 degrees!
