after checking the vacuum and finding it in the low normal I changed all of the hoses. the one that goes from the bottom of the carb to the pcv valve is loose at the pcv valve. is there a special hose or mine looks like fuel line. i'm sure i'm loosing vacuum there. i'm running 17 and hopefully this would make it higher.

Original hose is 11/32" inside diameter. That's a tough size to find; usually I wind up using 5/16" fuel hose. Don't use 3/8", which is a little too large.
