hello,
when you replaced the pump,did you make SURE the actuator arm is positioned on top of the cam lobe?
I have seen it where the pump has been bolted on with the arm under the lobe = not work.

I am having problems with my slant six. The fuel pump went out, so I replaced the pump. When turning the engine over the pump is not dispensing fuel. I finally got it started by spraying the carb with either. It ran for about 10 min. then shut off and wouldn't start again. I looked into the carb while it was running and saw a fine mist of fuel. But when I take the line loose from the filter, there is no fuel being pumped. I took the lines loose at the tank and blew them out with air. The only thing I can think of is that the tank is dirty and not letting fuel through freely. Can someone give me their thoughts. Thanks, John |

If the car ran for ten minutes then the pump is pumping something. Try putting the supply hose to the pump into a gas can and see if the pump works then. That will tell you if the fuel tank is dirty and clogging the pickup line. |

FYI... There is a small cylindrical box about the size of a "D" battery about midway between the gas tank and the fuel pump... on 1976 A-bodies it's on the rear rail...If the 1976 F-body has the same thing, you might unhook your lines from it and blow from there... The object is one of Mopar's safety features, the roll over valve... In the event you do roll the car onto it's roof this device will block anymore fuel from feeding the engine compartment. I've never had a problem with mine, but if you are forcing air from the fuel tank end to the front of the car, you might want to check that item. -D.Idiot |

Does that roll over valve need to be there, or can you take it out and splice the line. Also, I took the line loose from the filter and there is no gas coming out when turning over the car. |

I haven't gotten into the tank yet, but I was looking online for a new fuel tank and found that there is a fuel cut-off relay supposedly on the car, if there is, do you think that could be the problem? |

When you find it let me know the part number...I don't see this relay on the 1976 or 1978 H-N wiring diagrams...The parts book lists a "low fuel relay" but the index lists a number that is bogus (matches the number for the rear window defroster relay instead...8-37-70)-D.Idiot |

the part number for the fuel cutoff relay is D1876D, AC Delco part number is ACD1876D |

i woundnt think there would be a relay since its a mechanical and not electric pump. i have heard of the valves in pumps coming loose and not letting it pump right |

Get a gas can and about 8' of hose. Connect the hose to the inlet of the fuel pump and put the other end in the gas can. See if the pump delivers fuel. No sense in guessing where the problem lies. |
