Post subject:  64 Dart Headliner Install

Having nothing else to do yesterday, I visited a local upholstery shop to get an estimate for installing the new headliner I have on hand for my Dart. Right away the boss said he would have to pull the front and back windshields to do the job. When I told him my FSM does not mention pulling either glass, he quickly recanted and told me the job would cost $350.00. What would a job like that cost in your area? Of course I will check out other shops (very few in this area) before agreeing to the work. $350 seems high to me. Wish I had the skill to do it myself.

I think you do need to have the glass out to do it right. $350 sounds about right for a shop to do it actually (they are supplying the headliner right?)

I have had a couple done w/o removing glass. It may be easier w/o glass, though.

$350 is probably reasonable if including all parts/labor. I had one done in LA in 1997 for $170, but that was not "normal" labor charges, and was 13 yrs ago.

I have done a few headliner installs over the years, never pulled the glass.
This is one of those jobs that just takes a lot of labor time... it is not real "hard" work but the hours add-up. Two days of work for me, (14 to 16 hours) The removal and basic install of the new liner goes pretty fast. Stretching, trimming, tucking-in & "hooking" the edges... then getting all the wrinkles-out... takes all the time.
