This is on my '78 Volare's 225. I have an Offenhauser intake with a 2bbl carb on top, and a modified rear manifold. The intake and rear exhaust manifold are not bolted together, there is a gap between them. However, after driving around for awhile in warmer weather, the intake feels pretty hot. I was just wondering if this normal, I don't remember how hot the stock intake/exhaust combo felt.
I'm really just curious.

It's normal, an aluminum manifold will heat up faster then a cast iron manifold. A cast iron one will retain the heat longer. Inline engines need some heat in the manifold to help with air/fuel distribution.

Okay, thanks. I guess I never really noticed before how hot the intake got when it was stock.
Thanks!

Wes,

I really like the aluminum intake manifolds on the SL6. They help to shorten the heat soak especially on hot days since they cool faster and warm up much faster in the dead of winter for much better drive-ability especially when you have a electric fan and a super free flowing exhaust system with larger exhaust pipe. The engine gets much better mileage and runs cleaner.
Also, much less time with the choke engaged.........
