I just picked up a 1961 D200 Crew, and it needs a fuel pump. The one the parts store is calling out is pretty different, and would require re-bending much of my hard fuel line. The replacement part is much taller, and has the inlet and output lines on top of ~ 2" tall "stalks". The pump that came out had a glass-bowl fuel filter attached to it and the inlet and output lines are located in the fastened-on metal top . The local autozone can pull up a pump that looks VERY similar, but it's tagged as a 1960 part.

Any ideas?

I'll post some pics later.

Glass bowl is not correct -- they gave you a pump for something other than a slant-6 engine.

So that would mean the pump I pulled off was not the correct part. Great. Guess I might as well do the fuel line mod and go with the pump they have. Strangely, though, the pump on my 1963 D100 /6 looks exactly the same, sans the glass bowl fuel filter. Perhaps that was an add-on, as it does screw-in inline between the line/pump . . .

Ahhh, I thought you were talking about glass bowl actually built into/onto the pump, not screwed into the outlet. The "twin tower" pump you describe is standard-issue slant-6 item. Should be easy to hook up on inlet side with (new) flex hose to frame hardline, and yeah, just do the fuel line mod to replace that dangerous glass-bowl filter and avoid difficult hardline match-up problem.

Buy a good brand (Carter) fuel pump; it's getting harder and harder to guarantee the new pump won't fail without warning. Finest "permanent normal trading relations" quality, you betchya.
