WHat is the availability of 198 rods in the US like? Are they rare/ easy to get?

This question stems from my previous post regarding alternative pistons for a turbo slant project. It seems that the best option may be to use 198 rods and 2.2L pistons to acheive the desired comp ratio. As we don't have 198's here in Australia I would need to source the rods from the US. (Would anyone like to send me a set?...hehe)

The 198 SL6 was only offered / made 1970-74 so it is not that common of an engine to find today. The good news is that the 198 was Chrysler's production "base" engine during those 4 years and I'm sure hunderds of thonsands were made. (if not millions)
Bottom line is that these con rods are around and supplies of them "come and go" over time. I personally know of a few different sets available at this time including a listing in out parts database.
One thing about con rods is that they are hard to dig-out of engines, I have passed-up many sets of 198 con rods sitting inside 198 engines I spot at the junkyard, just because I was to busy / lazy to spend the time needed to pull the engine and take it apart to get the rods-out, as they say, time is money and any 198 rods you find for under $20.00 each is a good price based on the work needed to get them.

Thanks for the info. I'll look around and see what I can find. If I can find a set it looks like I'll be building a turbo 225 (198 rods, 2.2L dished pistons).

If anyone has a good set that they wouldn't mind sending to Australia let me know! (I say 'good' as I don't want to wait for a set to arrive only to find one rod is buggered).

Cheers,

Brad
