I'm a bit of as old car newbie so bear with me. I have a 64 valiant with a /6 225 and a 904 automatic. I have now gone through two gaskets trying to replace the filter and oil. in both cases the gaskets I got from FRAM and Purolator had one extra hole in them. After I've seated everything and tightened firmly but not too tight transmission fluid pours right out where the extra hole is. What can I Do?? I tried gasket sealer the sceond time to plug the hole and if anything it was worse.

Help

sounds to me like the wrong gasket. filter kits usually come with two gaskets: one for the 904 and one for the 727. the filters are the same as both trans' use a common valve body. the 727 gasket has a bit of a "elongated corner" which is where i'm thinking your extra hole is. the pan gasket should lay evenly around the perimeter of the pan, with all the holes lining up.

James

thanks for the response. in both cases the gaskets lined up fine to all the holes and to the edge of the pan, I just have one extra hole. wierd.

Which kit is this? (years of 904 covered)
You need to get the "early" kit, it has a filter which has two oil feed holes needed for the two oil pumps the "cable" 904s have. My bet is that the correct kit will have the gasket you need.
If you have no luck finding the correct kit, punch a second hole in the later filter and also make a "plug" of gasket material to fill the un-needed hole.

I've had the same problem so I do the following now. I've found that the pan must be absolutely straight, no warps. As insurance, I add a small bead of silicone and let it setup for 15 minutes before bolting in place loosly. Then, I tighten after about an hour.

I ended up doing something similar and it seems to be working OK. Thanks for the advice
