The strangest thing happened when checking lower ball joints, and other front end components. While turning front wheels stop to stop, a puddle of power steering fluid appeared on the floor.

For some reason, when turning the steering wheel with engine off, the power steering pump burped several ounces of fluid out of the reservoir via the filler neck. I don’t recall this happening before.

Any ideas?

Oh… Well ain’t that special.

For those wondering, I have a pair of lower ball joints on order from Rock Auto for the Dart.

Last week I had to install two lower ball joints in Mrs. Wjajr’s Nitro. That project was a PIA as no easy combination of ball joint install kit cups readily adapted to the Nitro’s size ball joint and LCA. After performing that service, A Body suspension parts now seem to be quite flimsy in comparison to my eye, and K Car front end parts--- toys…

A-body and k-car components may appear flimsy and weak, but they at least lasted more than 30k miles before requiring replacement. I worked at a dodge dealer until dec 2010 and based on my personal experience the front suspensions on charger/300/magnums was only good for 30k(strut rods and tie-rods). Rams frequently needed tie-rods before 40k and sometimes balljoints(upper or lower). Calibers need tie-rods, lower ball joints, and rear lower control arm bushing in the first 40k. 2nd generation durango had ball joint issues. Pt cruisers lower control arm bushings on every single pt made for a few years. The caravan would blow power steering rack seals and have loose outer tie rods.

I think the only mid 2000's chrysler that didn't frequently need suspension components was the sebring/stratus, but it was a car with no personality or style. I will take 50 year old chrysler engineering (or even fiat) any day before I would buy any of the german influenced low bid contractor crap they churned out.

I’m not surprised mcnoople, for years I have heard folks grousing over bad bushings and joints on their Chrysler products.

I forgot that a few months ago I had replaced outer tierod ends on my 300 C AWD at 43000 mi. First generation 300’s look to have undersized front end bushings, particularly on the AWD models. The 300’s lower control arm bushings are half the size of the Nitro’s, and both vehicles are close in weight, and drive all four wheels.

My LaBaron is on its fourth set of strut mounts in 70,000 miles. Early K Car front ends (81-82) were under designed. My 82 LeBaron was recalled due to K member cracks. My car was fitted with bolted on stiffening steel strips to prevent cracking. We also had new 81 Plymouth Reliant which suffered a cracked K member after about three years or 35000 miles of use. I traded that chunk of iron with its cracked K member after the 2.6 MCA Jet engine’s head cracked.

Lazy ass that I was the other day, procrastinating cleaning up that fresh six inch pool of PS fluid off the garage floor, it has now spread to triple its original size, and soaked into the concrete…
