Was installing my new RAS rockers today and was shimming and adjusting as needed.Used the bolts supplied and tightened shaft and noticed i could sill move the spacers on top of the towers a little.Snug but definately not tight.Bolts supplied are too long.Looked at the earlier version of RAS rockers and all the bolts had been cut.DO NOT use as is,either add a couple washers up top or cut them about a 1/4.Sure glad I caught this.Guzzi Mark |

I presume your are shimming laterally to line up the rockers with the valves. Do not shim up the rocker shaft to try to improve the geometry. Theoretically you could grind a shim in the shape of a half moon and get away with it, but I have seen too many cracked rocker shaft pedestals to ever recommend it. Good catch on the bolt length, that could also crack the pedestals. |

I was down in Anderson this afternoon, took a GOOD look at a set of the new RAS SL6 rockers...very impressive! As for your bolts bottoming out, did you check thread length/engagement or run a bottom tap in those pedestals to chase and clean up the threads prior to attempting the installation? I've had several sets of RAS rockers for both B/RB and LA engines and with ALL of their complete set-ups, I've ALWAYS chased the rocker pedestal hold down threads prior to installation. THAT is a std good operating procedure in itself, along with chasing the head bolt and main bolt holes to insure full thread engagement during any rebuild. Keep in mind the RAS sets use GRADE 8 bolts in lieu of the grade 5 used in OEM installations and most of the bolts have better thread enagement as well, somewhat overkill but a plus nonetheless. If the bolts are not fully engaging because of the bolt body (the unthreaded portion of the bolt) then that in itself is another issue. It's ALWAYS a good practice to measure ALL threaded fasteners prior to installation as to verify correct engagement.
