Just curious what the difference is between a power steering pump with a/c and without. Is it just the mount? |

>Is it just the mount?< On the '63 and '64 slant six, there's a difference in the pulley. On non-factory air conditioned cars, the power steering pump is driven off a pulley on the engine side of the harmonic balancer. The pulley on the power steering pump is almost flat. On factory air conditioned cars, the a/c compressor is driven off a pulley on the engine side of the harmonic balancer. The power steering pump is driven off a pulley attached to the radiator side of the harmonic balancer. The power steering pump pulley is deeply dished out to line up with that pulley attached to the radiator side of the harmonic balancer. I can't remember if the bracket is different for '63 and '64 a/c and non- a/c applications. At mid-year '64 when the firewall was redesigned to accommodate the V8, the factory seemed to standardize on the a/c style of installation, even when the car was not equipped with a/c. I have seen '65 models with the earlier non -a/c style, though. --Walt Jackson '63 Dodge Dart GT convertible '63 Dodge Dart GT hardtop |
