I want to go through my daughter's suspension.

Suspension.....new rubber or poly the best ? I know the poly is somewhat harder but lasts longer as well...

thoughts ?

Are all sway bars made the same ? Best brand for your dollar? Firm feel seems quite expensive..

Anyplace in Canada that you can buy 'em ?

Thanks
Ian.

I have polly bushings in a set of tubular upper control arms, and they constantly squeak with the slightest movement of the suspension. Even leaning on the fender will illicit groans from the bushings. Drives me nuts.

Unless you are deaf, run straight pipes, or are setting this car up for performance handling, I would stick with good old rubber.

I use rubber in UCAs and LCAs, but poly in sway bar and rear springs. Could use poly or MOOG improved type rubber in strut rods.

Poly is overrated, IMHO, for most apps. 30+ yr old rubber sucks in anyone's book, but new rubber is usually quite nice.

I would have to say 99% of the racket comes from the upper control arm bushings. My sway bar bushings are polly, but there is very little movement in them unless the wheels are wallowing through jugulating terrain, so no real squawking from them.

There is some squeaking from the rear spring bushings, but not too much if you lube with silicone. You might get the polygraphite or whatever those variants are called.

I seem to be ordering the wrong parts...it is out of my sheer ignorance..I have spent the last 30 plus years playing with British cars and I am trying to stay ahead of my kids..

Can you buy an all rubber kit like the poly kit ? I would feel more comfortable if I could replace everything ...BTW, this is my kid's car.

can you also buy full water hose kit ? ..I used to see them on e-bay..

Thanks
Ian.

grassy,

I’m a recovering Austin Healey addict, and has been almost 30 years since my last twin SU carburetor tuning session… I feel your pain!

What is this hose job thing? Do you mean radiator & heater hoses? IF so just get the radiator hoses, and heater hose from Napa or equivalent. They might even have the things in stock. Try to get a lower hose equipped with an internal metal spring which prevents collapsing.

Bill,

I had a '71 'bgt and a '59 vauxhall victor delux series II ..apparently, only two of these on the road in can/states..I bought it with 17.5 k miles..time warp car..in storage for over 40 years..had the mg for over 30 years..I was in a car accident @ 4 years ago..long story, had to sell both..

I long for a su carb :) ..my 'bgt never let me down..I tell the kids stories like..do you know where the trans dip stick was on my car...lots of eye rolling..that was before electricity right ?? Since lucas was the prince of darkness, they may have a point..actually, lucas is alive and strong but now an american company..or it was the last time I looked..

The kids gt me in to a muscle car..I point and jump up and down, they wrench..lots of fun teaching you kids.. Alot of looking and the odd car show...life is good..They are helping me build a pc oven..you make do when things are not around you..have a napa store..they gave me an account when they saw how much I was buying..

BTW, did you know oil based spray paint for cars is gone within 6 months in this province ?

Yes, both heating and rad hoses...there was a guy on e-bay @ Jan selling a full kit..

Thanks for the words..

What year?

Sway bar opinions may vary depending on the year.

I use the Addco bars on my 64, but have improved/strengthened the front mount..........

Yes, the included Addco mounts suck.

Hi,

It is a '75 Duster that we bought with 34K miles on it..no rust on body or undercarriage except for some surface on the running gear..the PO used tar in odd places like the firewall.
