Hey Guys. First post from a Mopar newbie. Building a 1929 Tudor A. I want to go a different route than normal, so I got a '68 slant 6 for it. I want to put an auto in it and would like some advice from you guys on my options. I know nothing about the Mopar transmissions and am asking for a little guiding light. A 4 speed auto would be awesome but it needs to be hydraulic and not electric. I plan on eventually sticking a small turbo on the slant but power numbers will remain docile. Also, if its not too much trouble, an idea of a suitable donor vehicle and year model would be very helpful. Thanks in advance for the help.

Chad

Most all slant six 904's will work from 68 up, don't remember when they went to lock up converter.

Chad I hate to tell you this but there was never a 4 speed auto made to bolt up to a slant six. There are adaptors out there, it can be done, but it will be a challange. Send Dart270 (Lou) a pm, he has put a 4 speed auto behind a slant and can offer you guidance.

What about vehicles without slants in them? Our p-n-p has a good stockpile of early 80s vans with smallblocks and autos. Maybe one of those??? Also, what is a good identifying marker to look for to know I'm pulling what I need? Sorry for the infantile questions but I really am this uneducated when it come to anything Mopar. Thanks again.

Chad,

Slant six (904) bell housing bolt pattern is different from V8’s patern. You will need a transmission from a slant six. Some of the later year slant six transmissions were equipped with lock-up torque converters, and all are three speed, none were ever equipped with an over drive gear.
