Post subject:  Progress on the new hood.
I decided to go with the louvers offered by Run Cool at http://www.raceace.com/products.html

on the old metal hood. I have used the middle sized ones which are almost the same size and shape as the foot print of the existing hood scoops, and in almost the same place. I had to do a fair amount body work to the bottom of the hood in the form of rust removal and sealing. Then I had to place, mark and cut the holes in the hood. That is all done now, and the hood is at the body shop for painting. While waiting for that to be done, I decided to seperate the grill parts which were pop rivited together by the factory and paint them.

I decided to put the Dodge emblem back on the hood. I did not include that on the plastic one, and lately began to feel bad when folks have had to ask what kind of car it is. At first it was cool to think it was modified so seriously that no one knew what it was. Many people thought it was a Road Runner because of the Dukes of Hazzard. Just recently I have decided I want to advertize the brand a bit and the slant engine with emblems on the car. I am thinking of putting a Swinger emblem, or maybe a Dart GT emblem on the fender. When I get a new digital camera, I will figure out how to get a new signature photo in place.

Keep us up to date on these scoops. I have a turbo truck that I think get too hot under the hood. 08 Dodge 3500 cummings.

Got the "new" hood back from the painters on Friday, and on last night with the help of a friend. It looks nice. Now I have to put all the trim on which includes the new heat vents, the hood pin trim rings, and the silver trim accross the front. One thing I am lacking is the rubber pieces which center the hood on the sides. I am wondering if Year One carries new ones. Last time I went on line to find something on Year ONe's web site, I could not find restoration parts, but only aftermarket upgrades, or custom things. I am not sure how I got lost, but have not been back to find out.

I'll tell you something cool: I got the hood in the back of my wife's Scion Xb. That little car is amazing considering it was built on the platform of the tiny little Toyota Starlet, or Yaris. I had to put the seat pretty far forward, but I was able to drive it there and back.

Can you post a picture of where you cut the holes in your hood for the vents?

Ted, I e-mailed you two photos. For some reason my digital camera decided to work. I just tried it on a whim. If you want to, and know how, go ahead and post a photo in this thread.

There is no perfect place to put the vents, as there are braces under any spot I thought looked good, so I just went with aesthetics and left the upper metal in place over the braces, and then Swiss cheezed the braces, and upper metal with a hole drill. I realized after it was done and in place that I should have drilled some drain holes in the lower level of sheetmetal where it is formed into the braces that run along the hood's edge on each side. I will do that later I guess.

I used a saber saw, (or hand held jig saw as they are some times called), to cut the holes. It did not take long at all to do. I started the holes with a 1" hole saw at each corner. Use ear protection. My ears were ringing when I got done. I should have known better.

Thanks for the kind words. I think it appropriate to quote Charlie S at this time. Years ago when I complimented his car he said, "It's just the result of many years of sticking with it." Or something like that.

That looks great. I want to know how that works. I have a LOT of heat from my turbo under the hood with NO vents.
Cant be good on anything.
