New to the group because I'm thinking about buying a vintage RV ('67) that is advertised as having an "Industrial" slant 6 225. What's the difference between an "Industrial" and regular slant 6?
Is there a manual that would give me "Industrial" slant 6 information?

Thanks,
Larry

I know some of the early ones used a different intake with side drafts due to engine bay space. The valve cover may also be diffrent with the vents on the side rather that the top. The industrial motor had a H.P rating of 127 vs. the 145 of a passenger car slant. I am sure this lower H.P rating is due to the fact that a lot of things were changed just to get it to fit. Is this a Clark Motor Home?

Yes Gillam.....We know about the Clark with it's unique, front wheel drive 4-speed, and many of us know about the numerous other industrial slants in other venues.
Haigie high-wheel agricultural sprayers.
White(?) fork trucks
airplane tow tractors
fruit /nut tree shakers
stationary generator or pump powerplants

The above is one of the many reasons that this board exists, and the slant enjoys it's legendary reputation.

Many of the legitimate industrial engines had rotators on the valve stems, rather than direct contact between the rocker arms and stem.
Many of the external differences are due to specific uses, such as the induction system mentioned above, but the basic engine is the same as any other slant, and most are fully interchangable, with some minor and correctable differences.

I have a 66 Clark Cortez. The wife and I love it. Mine had a 318 put in it at some point which is fine. Although I sometimes wish it did have a slant in it still. The slant they used in the Cortez's wasn't that different except for the intake and Carb I believe. Because it had to fit under the cockpit.
There are MANY things to pay mind to while driving the Cortez. For one, it is front wheel drive using U-joints. U-joints, as you may know, don't like to be at too steep of angles. Thus giving you a turning radius equal to a city bus... and if the wheel is turned, be careful to not let that clutch out to fast or you will snap a U-joint. It is all to common an occurrence when you are not thinking about the design and being used to rear wheel drive vehicles. Burnouts are out of the question. Lol and there are about 40 grease points under the front that must be minded to about every few thousand miles. There is a Yahoo group I am part of that was invaluable to me when I first got mine. I would suggest becoming part of that and reading the forums.
Other than that... my Cortez has made the wife and I very comfortable and gotten us to quite a few places with more to come. Plus... it looks cooler than a basic old class C Dodge. Lol

Thanks guys. I haven't bought this unit yet, but expecting to in a couple weeks. I'm planning what it's going to take to get it on the 1000 mi road trip after not running for 6 years.
I was going over the maintenance manual and came across the engine description:

Chrysler HB-225-450

Understand the 225, but not the HB or 450 designation. Anybody know?

Thanks
