Post subject:  Distributor gear?

Does anyone make a steel gear for the slant distributor? If not, does anyone have the part number for a new plastic one?

Hey, Robert. Haven't heard from you for quite a while. The steel gear is no longer available. Wasn't really necessary, anyway. Dorman part number 90450
Any parts store can get it, if not in stock

It maybe necessary in my application, Charlie!!
I'm having a problem with the timing changing on the rail. Make several hard passes with it and it is fine. Then all of a sudden, timing is retarded by exactly one tooth.
I have eliminated everything but the gear on the bottom of the dizzy. Cam gear is fine, no chips or missing teeth and the gear on the dizzy looks good.
All I can do is put a new one on there and see what happens.

Check the end-play on both the distributor and the cam.
Are you running a thrust button on the cam?

I don't think the gear is your problem, but I might have a metal one in in stock. I will have to look.
Any chance you could make the slant six race in Reynolds Ga, Oct 23, 2010?
If you say yes, I might look harder

Doc, end play on the dizzy is fine. As far as the cam, I do not remember it having any end play in it, but I am pretty sure there is no thrust button.
I bought this motor and have been running it for the last three years and just started having this problem. The thrust button would be between the cam and timing gear cover, right?
Charlie, as far as Reynolds, I have already registered for the Billetproof drag race down here in Lakeland that same weekend.
Some of the guys off of the HAMB are running at Reynolds that weekend and I usually make that meet. Just so happens that they booked both the same weekend.
Thanks for the replies, Robert
