i just installed a 2 bbl intake with a bbd carb from a 1974 318. i fixed a float stinking problem after i rebuilt the carb(not sure why it was sticking)

any hints on setting the carb up to this setup?
it seems to idle a bit high(need to hook up the tach for exact spec)

the only upgrade is we shave just a little off the head 0.010 i think...
and put in a comp cam here are the specs:

It sounds like it is purring like a kitten. The idle isn't bad, maybe 750 rpm?

Once the air cleaner is on it may change a little.

thanks, i let it sit and it doesnt want to start... so i have to work out that issue...lol back for more reading. i do need to adjust the valves when i get it nice and warm (maybe it will help?)

and i'm waiting on a linkage to show up so i can hit the road once its running.

carbs for me is a challenge.... too much fuel trim info in the noggin...lol

Welcome to the site, gnome. Sounds like a nice car and you are close to a lot of Slant sixers in the VA, MD, DC areas. Fuel boiling/evap could be the problem of the hard start after sitting? Good idea to adjust valves.

I am about 4 hrs from you in Blacksburg.

hi lou, i let it sit for a while and let it cool off. i have the stuff to re-route the fuel line just wanted to work the new install kinks out of it first.

i used to live by you, worked at new river mall at the sears back in the early to mid 90s. got my start undercar, so i'm better with suspension lol

not yet...i will put a manual choke on it (i think). not sure how the pull off will work i have to mod it to the other angle and then mod the pull off if i don't since its a 318 carb. IT DOES HOWEVER WORK BETTER THAN THE HOLLEY 1945 that was originally on there

i guess it had too big of jets in the old one and it barreled out black smoke all the time.

i did get it started again i opened the throttle all the way and it started right up. i have to muck around with the timing and get the valves set.

i read somewhere that the idle enrichment screw setting is 1 1/2 turn out for that carb so i cranked back to that and it started.

any thoughts to add?

The idle enrichment screw setting might be 1 1.2 turns out, but it probably isn't. No to carbs will have the same setting, and there is no one correct setting for all carbs. The general rule of thumb is to set BOTH (yes, there are two) curb idle enrichment screws to 2 1/2 turns out and then turn each screw out 1/4 turn until the idle gets rough, then turn them both back in 1/2 turn. I have had BBDs idle nicely with the mixture screws set anywhere from one to 3 1/2 turns out.
