I currently have a Holley 1945 1bbl carb on my 225. I recently bought a 2bbl intake manifold to pep up my ride. A single barrel slant six van is very under powered, almost to embarrassment. Which 2bbl carb will work best? And is there any thing else I'll need for the conversion?

Which 2 bbl intake did you get? If it's the OEM manifold, you want to find a Carter BBD.
If you have an Automatic transmission, you will want all of the kickdown linkage, including the kickdown lever from the transmission. Not to worry though, you can install a Lokar cable kickdown system also.

If it's an aftermarket manifold, it may take a different carburetor.

Whatcha got?

I got an OEM manifold, off a super-six. I also have a auto tranny.

Under no circumstances try to drive that van without the kickdown linkage hooked up! As for the carb, some like the Carter BBD but my dad never could get his to hold an adjustment. The 2 bbl Holley 350 cfm is what I am running now and it offers a ton of performance, but you will definitely feel it in the wallet when you fill up!

But do not neglect the kickdown!

Yay! Another slanted van owner! If you are not getting decent performance from your one barrel, I suspect something isn't working correctly. Double check your base timing and make sure that the outer vibration dampener ring hasn't slipped, changing your timing mark. Check for vacuum leaks and make sure you have properly adjusted the valves. You may also need to adjust the bands on the transmission and adjust the kickdown arm. If you haven't already, disconnect and plug the EGR vacuum hose (if equipped) and bypass the OSAC valve (if equipped).

A Super Six (two barrel carb) is a great improvement, but since you have a van you will have several extra obstacles to overcome. Due to the doghouse, vans use a special offset air cleaner. Van two barrel air cleaners for slant sixes are VERY hard to find. Van Super Sixes also use a van-specific kickdown linkage to clear the shift linkage. You will probably have better luck switching to a Lokar-style kickdown and getting an aftermarket air cleaner. The Carter BBD is a fine carburetor in good condition, as is the Holley 2280. You will also need to get creative with the throttle linkage since the two barrel carb on the factory manifold opens in a different direction than the one barrel. I believe the throttle on your van actually attaches to the kickdown first and there is a rod that pulls the carb open from there. THis won't work with a two barrel.

OR you could head up this way with a car trailer and pickup my 78 all stock supersix manual 4spd B100.You'd have everything needed and with the 4spd no kick-down linkage required 8)
