I picked up a "225" in a trade so it wouldn't get recycled and assumed the guy knew what he had, turns out it's a 170. So I was thinking of what use this thing could be to me and wanted to know more about it. My plans are either a bucket style rat rod or a front engine drag car, something fairly simple.

I didn't realize what I had until I looked at "the hose", you know that 1" excuse for a coolant hose. Either way give me what ever specs or facts or even ideas you may have about this thing.

I plan on cranking my race 170 to 8000 RPM. Wish me luck! 7000 RPM with good valve springs and rod bolts isn't too tough. Regardless the weak link is still the oil pump gear.

I've always liked the looks of a Track-T. It might be tough to keep it all under the hood, but it would be fun to try. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway- ... ,4010.html

If you and I were a little closer I'd ask if you want to sell the engine as I'm looking for another 170 core or at least a good crank.

Do most of the 225 parts swap? Three main things are the crank rods and block right? What about the head, are the valves way smaller? Can the head be worked for a spare 225 head?

The cylinder heads are identical year-for-year. The issue though is most 170s are '66 and older with the old style combustion chamber. Check the casting number. Read the article if you haven't. http://www.slantsix.org/articles/combus ... hamber.htm

Block, crank, con rods, pushrods, and cam grind are 170 specific. 170s generally had a somewhat smaller carb and early ones allegedly had a cam sprocket to advance the cam timing. I can't recall any other differences. Oh, the distributor advance curve is probably a little different.
