I made it down to 41 today for some testing. I had the Edelbrock on first, and it seemed to be doing some weird things on the way down. However, when I got to the track, it was leaving really well, but popping just before the shifts. I tried a couple things, but it didn't get any better. Best run was 14:92@88.8. Worst run was 15:00@87.9.
I put the Holley back on and it was running beautifully. Best pass was a 14:81@89.5, worst one was 14:91@88.9. However, right after I ran the 81 I went to make another run and it just started dropping cylinders after the secondaries came open.

For now, I'm calling the test a draw because I obviously have a fuel delivery problem. I was going to change the filter, but didn't have one in the box of stuff I carry like I thought. I'm guessing right now that it's either the filter or probably the pump. I believe that the problem was worse with the Edelbrock because it doesn't hold as much fuel in the float bowls as the Holley does.

I'm still pretty happy because the :81 is the best run the car has ever made. The track was hooking so well today that for the first time it actually lugged the motor down when I launched on that run. I also set a new best 1/8th mile time too. It went 9:36@72.9 on that run. Previous best was 9:41.

Doug, I eliminated a couple things today, and might have helped another problem. It's been running incredibly rich at low speeds and I think the problem was a bad coil wire. I changed that today, and checked the fuel filter (OK) and it seems to have cleared up some of the richness. I am going to try and get my electric pump on this week and hopefully that clears up the other problem.

Don't know if I'll get around to spraying it this year or not. I changed positions at work (Shop Supervisor now) and am on salary. Time is getting a little scarce now.

I di manage to whack a 5.0 Mustang and a Dakota R/T yesterday. I was also kicking the crap out of a supercharged Gran Prix in the 1/8th. After that he was driving around me like I was going backwards. Dennis

It's hard to say what I'm going to be up to next year Ron. I did talk to the guy who's got my Duster this morning and he is finally making some progress with it. (He works construction and they are slow now) We should be ready to paint in about February. Mike has another head to do for me and I have the stuff for another 198 rod/ 2.2 piston shortblock. I also traded for another drag bike........Bagel

I changed the fuel pump last night. While looking the old one over I decided that it seemed to be good so I pulled the back bowl off the Holley to see if there was any dirt in the jets or anything. As soon as I tapped the bowl to loosen it up I knew what was wrong. I heard a rattle and knew that could only be one thing. Both jets were laying in the bottom of the float bowl. I guess I was half right with my guess that the secondaries were running out of fuel. They were actually way rich. That'll teach me to try and jet 2 carbs at once when I'm getting ready to go on Saturday morning. Later! Dennis

I thought the Edelbrock was the one running out of fuel (or breaking up)?
