the stock transmission feels like its slipping slightly in the begging i ran it low on fluid accidentaly then it was over filled and i think blew valves or what does it do? then i drained the fluid and put a heavier weight synthetic gear lubricant in it and it has ran much better but i would like to know how to fix it properly.

Drain it, change the filter, and run the right amount of ATF+4 transmission fluid. While you have the pan off, adjust the bands. THis will likely cure any problems you have.

The specs in the factory service manual you need to purchase and read.

Please tell me you didn't put rear axle oil in your auto-trans.Is it a 904 or a 727? If you find the 7 digit part# on the driver's side, just above the oil pan gasket surface,I could probly help.

its a 904 but ive also been thinking about an adapter plate to change to a smallblock tranny how hard would it be to find an 60's model /6 truck or van? and is this gonna have a big difference on the leangth of it?

Do you mean a small block 727? Why not just use a slant six 727. No adapter needed.

The 727 is a heavy duty trans, as compared to the 904.
There is no difference (basically) between the small block 727 and the slant six 727, except for the engine mounting bolt pattern.
There are some differences between different small block 904's and the slant six 904, but the slant six 904 can be "upgraded" to the V-8 904 specs.

In any case, there is no need for an adapter.

The only time an adapter is needed is to install a A-500 or an A-518 overdrive auto to the slant six, as these transmissions are only available in a small block bolt pattern.

PS: the Chrysler adapter will not work to adapt a small block 904-998-999 trans to the slant slant six. Only works on the small block 727 and the two auto OD trans.

thats just it i want overdrive since it will be on the highway alot so i figured a smallblock would be easier since i have a few laying around to use but is there a better option to get overdrive?

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean a smallblock engine, or a small block trans, behind a slant six?
If you are talking about running a overdrive automatic, behind the slant six, you can't use the "regular" small block transmissions (904-998-999 or 727). To use a Chrysler auto overdrive trans, it must be either a A-500 or an A-518. With either of those transmissions, then, yes, you must use the Chrysler adapter or a aftermarket copy.

OK. Stop. Take a breath.

Before you go any further, you need to take your car into a shop and have them professionally power flush all the gear oil out of the transmission, including the torque converter, and fill it up with ATF+4 and a new filter. While they are in there, have them adjust the bands. Once you get your current transmission flushed and refilled, you transmission *should* work just fine. However, I don't know what effect the gear oil will have on the clutch and band material. You transmission mary very well be toast after the wrong fluid was put in it and it was driven.

Before you go spending a ton of money ripping your car apart just to put in something custom you think you want, you need to get what you have working as good as possible. Putting in overdrive is more complicated than just a transmission swap. To make it work right, you also need to have the right rear axle gear ratios. Swapping an A500 or A518 (the Chrysler factory overdrive transmissions) will also require fabrication of a transmission mount and possible modification of the floor of your vehicle. The adapter kits to mount the smallblock transmissions behind a slant six are somewhat rare and sell in the $175-$500 range when they come up for sale. It is more than just an adapter plate. It also is special bolts and a special spacer.

You will get more return on your investment by getting the stock transmission working right and focusing on other modifications to improve fuel economy than you will swapping in an overdrive transmission. If your transmission is toast and you are dying to swap in another, look for a post 1980 A904T transmission. It has a lockup torque converter and a wide gear ratio for improved acceleration with high (low numerical) gear ratio rear axles.

If you take a picture of your transmission pan and post it we can tell you what transmission you have.

Also, not to be a jerk, but it is very difficult to understand posts where the poster doesn't use punctuation. Please use punctuation, appropriate capitalization, and correct spelling as much as possible. Doing those things helps us help you.

Sorry, i get in a hurry and forget my english. Yes a smalblock transmission and the transmission isnt toast luckily and i can easily flush the tranny and torque converter and change the filter. I believe a book would be a good Christmas wish but i will probably be replacing the 904 with a 727 if i put a turbo on it like i eventually would like.
